Gayle shared her personal story of drug abuse and how it effected her family during a Next Steps forum Friday at Sydenham United Church regarding a proposed detox and rehabilitation centre in Brantford.
BRANTFORD – Brant MPP Dave Levac’s forums pushing for a residential detoxification-rehabilitation centre in Brantford are now being handed over to Mayor Chris Friel’s task force, with a mission to get the job done.
Levac made the announcement Friday, after a three-hour information sharing forum at Sydenham United Church attended by approximately 30 people. Notes from Friday’s meeting, along with the report authored by St. Leonard’s Community Services looking at the available data on addiction and making a series of recommendations for this community, is to be passed on to the mayor’s task force.
The statistics are sobering.
Within the area, alcohol abuse is by far the leading addiction.
Brant Community Healthcare System manager of mental health and addiction services Andrew McRobert shared some of the numbers with the audience, who could be heard gasping in reaction at points.
