The Dramatic Arts component of theAASK program invites youth into an environment that encourages analysis, interpretation and self discovery. It is an environment that is emotionally safe with no wrong answers. Our students are encouraged to engage and articulate in a group setting. We acknowledge the harmful consequences that come from judging others and/or ourselves. Youth learn to support and remind one another that our ‘first thought is our best thought’. As such we are free to experiment outside of our comfort zone and therefore strengthen individual confidence.
Students connect their own perspectives, associations and experiences to social values and peer pressure through the use of role play, writing in role, improvisation, movement and character development.
Students work together toward a production of their own creation. Themes such as social values and peer pressure are found during class sharing and discussion.
